This review focuses on the newly released version of the Point Load Test Application, specifically designed for use with the GCTS PLT-2W. While the previous version remains available for the time being, users are encouraged to transition to this updated application.

The Point Load Test Application enhances the testing experience by facilitating seamless data recording and analysis through a Bluetooth connection to the PLT device. It effectively displays load and displacement data from a dual-sensor setup, enabling users to calculate point load test results with accuracy.

One notable feature is the two-step calibration process for readings. Furthermore, the application can retrieve pre-loaded calibration factors directly from the PLT-2W, simplifying setup procedures.

Specimen measurements are conducted with impressive ease. By placing a specimen into the apparatus, as illustrated within the app, users can apply a minor load. The application intelligently calculates the specimen's dimensions along that axis, making it suitable for various specimen types, including diametral, axial, or irregular shapes. Additionally, it includes functionality for reusing dimensions—ideal for core samples—allowing consistent measurements across multiple tests.

Operators have the flexibility to define custom equations to derive unconfined compressive strength from the point load strength index produced in the test. The application automatically generates graphs that correlate load with equivalent core diameter and computes unconfined compressive strength for rock specimens with minimal user intervention.

Moreover, this application extends its capabilities to measure Ultrasonic P-Wave Velocities when paired with a ULT-2 or ULT-200 device, thereby broadening its utility in material testing.
